CASTLE STREET COTTAGE

Castle Street Cottage is in Abergavenny overlooking the Blorenge mountain across the street from the Angel Hotel, who own and take bookings for the cottage (Ivy Cottage and The Old Post Office we offer here in Llanddewi Skirrid). Whilst not rural, Castle Street is quiet and gives easy walking access to the charms of Abergavenny town. Plus you have the service and amenities of the hotel on hand. And when you eat with us at The Walnut Tree, complimentary taxis each way are included.

A 17th century two-storey property immediately opposite the rear of the hotel, this cottage is full of character and sleeps up to four people. Lift the latch on the wooden door and you’re into a beamed sitting room with a slate floor. Leather chairs are gathered round the huge fireplace and the pale, washed walls feature contemporary pieces of art. For a cosy feel when it’s chilly, there is a large open-flame gas fire (and fully-controllable central heating all year, of course). There is also a small pantry stocked with bits to enjoy.

In the wall behind the fireplace, wooden stairs wind up to a beamed bedroom with 6ft super-king bed and shower room. The second bedroom, with a 4ft 6” double bed and shower room, has direct access from the garden. The beds have handmade pocket-sprung mattresses, crisp white cotton bed linen and feather pillows. In each bedroom a flat-screen, HD television and digital radio combine well with antique furniture.

The cottage has a long, secluded rear garden with excellent views of the Blorenge mountain. There are shrubs, and climbers on the stone walls, a wild meadow patch and a neat, paved patio with garden furniture - the perfect summer spot for reading or relaxing with a drink.

Guests may park in the hotel car park opposite. Castle Street Cottage is totally non-smoking and is serviced daily.
